Questions About Wigs:

What are the differences between human hair and synthetic hair?

Both types have their advantages, and many people opt for both human hair wigs and synthetic hair wigs for various situations. Human hair wigs offer the most natural appearance and styling versatility. Though they are typically more expensive, they can last over a year with proper care. On the other hand, synthetic hair wigs are more affordable and can often be worn straight out of the box with little to no styling.

What should I keep in mind about heat-friendly synthetic hair?

For those who enjoy styling versatility, human hair or heat-friendly synthetic hair wigs are excellent choices. While human hair wigs provide the most natural look, heat-friendly synthetic wigs also allow for heat styling (optimal temperature of 250-275 degrees; avoid exceeding 350 degrees). Proper maintenance is crucial for keeping heat-friendly hair in top condition. Use a wide-tooth comb (not a brush) and avoid combing when wet. Utilizing products designed for synthetic hair, like BeautiMark, can help maintain quality. We also recommend detangling spray! With proper care, heat-friendly synthetic hair should last a few months.

What are the different types of wig cap construction?

Ongoing innovations in technology enable the creation of increasingly comfortable and wearable wigs! The base of any wig is called the cap. Various techniques attach hair to the wig cap to create different styles. Most wigs have hair attached in "wefts," which are strips of hair doubled over and sewn together in long strands. Some wigs are hand-tied for the most natural movement. If you prefer wearing your hair swept away from your face, lace front wigs are your best bet. For parting versatility, consider full monofilament wigs. 100% hand-tied and double monofilament wigs are known for being gentle on sensitive scalps.

How do I figure out my wig size?

Wigs are generally available in petite, average, and large sizes, with average size wigs fitting about 95% of customers. We provide a guide to help you measure your head to determine the best size!

How should I go about choosing color?

We aim to make selecting the right color online just as easy as shopping in a store (or even easier)! Once you've found a style you like, it's time to explore color options — there are often dozens. If you're new to wigs, consider sticking close to your natural color (you can experiment with color later).

Are color swatches 100% accurate?

Hair color images are intended to provide a visual representation of the color options for each item. However, it's important to note that on-screen representations may not precisely reflect actual colors due to varying monitor calibrations. Additionally, the device you use may affect how colors appear. For instance, Apple products often make colors seem slightly warmer.

Are there tips for making my wig appear more natural?

Human hair wigs usually provide the most realistic look, but advancements in technology mean that synthetic wigs can also appear very natural. Styles with lace front and monofilament features, or those that are 100% hand-tied, will also look quite natural. When choosing a style, consider what will be most flattering for your face shape. For color, it's wise to stick close to your natural shade. Whatever you decide, a stylist can help customize your wig to match your preferences.

What wig choice is best for a sensitive scalp?

100% hand-tied or double monofilament wigs tend to be the gentlest on sensitive scalps. Some individuals opt for wig caps to protect their scalp.

How should I care for my wig?

Wigs come with manufacturer instructions that should be followed. When not in use, store your wig on a mannequin or wig stand to maintain its shape, and wash it only when necessary (roughly once every 10-14 days of wear, though more frequently if your lifestyle or environment requires it)

Should I own more than one wig?

Absolutely! From a practical standpoint, wigs can last longer if not worn every day. You can wash and air-dry one while wearing another. If you wear human hair wigs or heat-friendly synthetic wigs, you can keep one styled straight and the other curly to reduce stress. Here’s a tip we love: If you’d like to keep your wig a secret, consider getting two or three of your favorite style and have your stylist trim them in stages. This way, you can create the illusion of hair growth and haircuts without anyone noticing! If you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore a range of different styles and colors.

Can I curl or straighten my wigs?

Synthetic wigs can be irreparably damaged if you attempt to curl or straighten them using heat tools unless they are Smart Heat tools. For ultimate styling versatility, consider human hair wigs — you can curl or straighten them just like your natural hair.

Can I color my wig?

Most styles come in a variety of colors, reducing the need for dyeing. While synthetic hair cannot be dyed, human hair wigs can be. However, this is a delicate process that should only be done by a professional hair stylist. We recommend coloring only darker shades, not lighter — since a lot of chemical processing goes into wig manufacturing, additional manipulation can cause damage. We do not recommend bleaching or attempting to strip or lighten color on any human hair pieces.

What’s the best way to store a wig?

A wig stand or mannequin is ideal for storage. It will help prevent tangling and maintain the wig’s shape. Also, try to keep your wigs in a cool, dry place to keep them in the best condition.

Can I swim or shower with my wig?

We do not recommend this. Swimming or showering can put too much stress on the hair and lead to unmanageable tangles. Additionally, pool chemicals and salt can damage the hair and affect its color.

What are some ways to tackle thinning hair?

If you experience thinning hair at the crown, hairline, or on top, you might consider wearing a half wig, hairpiece, or top piece instead of a full wig. Many of these options blend seamlessly with your natural hair, making it difficult for even experts to detect them when worn. They’re also a great choice if you want to cover grey hair or manage new growth between color touch-ups.
